Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has lauded President John Dramani Mahama for his continued commitment to the development of football in the country.

Speaking during a media engagement following a meeting with Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu, who also owns Ghana Premier League side Karela United, Okraku said President Mahama’s renewed focus on sports is beginning to yield significant dividends.

He cited Ghana’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup as evidence of the President’s impact on the national game.

The Black Stars booked their ticket to the global showpiece for the fifth time in six consecutive editions after a narrow 1-0 victory over Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium.

“We will work together to follow the agenda of the President [John Mahama], who set out to reset all facets of our country, including football,” Okraku said.

“I think that the recent happenings, his personal commitment to the team, is clearly having a manifestation on the football ecosystem. The Black Stars are back in the Mundial where we belong, and a lot more can be said.”

Okraku also commended the broader progress of Ghanaian football, pointing to the University for Development Studies’ triumph at the World University Games in China, where they defeated Brazil’s Paulista University 2-1 in the final.
