Panama defender Andres Andrade has admitted his side faces a difficult challenge against Ghana but insists the Central Americans are well prepared for their opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The two nations will meet in their Group L opener at Toronto Stadium on Wednesday, with both teams eager to make a strong start to their campaigns.

Speaking after Panama's training session on Monday, Andrade revealed the squad has spent considerable time studying Ghana's strengths and identifying areas they can exploit.

"The group is very focused; we know what we have to do on Wednesday," Andrade said.

"We are aware that it won't be an easy match, but we have been training very well with the coach, we are following his instructions, we know where we can hurt Ghana, and we will try to take advantage of our opportunities."

The LASK Linz defender stressed that defensive discipline will be crucial if Panama are to secure a positive result against the four-time African champions.

"If we keep a clean sheet, we have a great chance of getting a good result," he added.

Panama have been putting the finishing touches on their preparations at their base camp in Ontario ahead of their historic World Cup debut.

Head coach Thomas Christiansen oversaw a lighter training session on Monday, with all 28 players available, including midfielder Adalberto Carrasquilla, who has returned to work with the ball after recent fitness concerns.

The Panamanians will hold one final training session on Tuesday before travelling to Toronto for their official pre-match commitments.

Ghana, meanwhile, are aiming to advance from a group that also includes England and Croatia after arriving in Canada seeking a strong return to the global stage.
