Head of Public Relations and Strategy at the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Neil Armstrong Mortagbe, has expressed optimism that the Black Stars will make the country proud at the 2026 World Cup.

Ghana will make their fifth appearance in the history of the Mundial this summer in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

However, after Black Stars' back-to-back defeats against Austria and Germany as part of the team's preparations, Otto Addo was sacked, with Carlos Queiroz taking over as the head coach on a short-term deal.

Speaking on Asaase Radio, Mr Armstrong Mortagbe stressed that the team is benefiting from a blend of experienced leadership and emerging talent under the former Egypt, Colombia and Iran head coach.

“We have belief in the work being done… we expect the team to make Ghana proud,” he said.

Mortagbe described Queiroz as a “father figure” with extensive international experience, noting that his leadership could inspire improved performances following recent inconsistencies.

He said lessons from past tournaments had been factored into preparations, while competition for places in the squad was expected to drive performance.

On team identity, Mortagbe said Ghana is developing a defined playing philosophy known as “agoro with purpose” — a style combining flair with efficiency.

“It’s not just about playing… the end result has to be goals,” he said.

Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama, setting up a demanding path in the group stage.

The Black Stars will begin their World Cup journey against Panama at BMO Field in Toronto on June 17, before facing England at the Boston Stadium on June 23.

Their final group match comes against Croatia at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on June 27.

Ahead of the tournament, the Black Stars will step up preparations with friendly matches against Mexico on May 22 and Wales on June 2.
