Asante Kotoko captain Samba O’Neil refuses to give up on qualification despite home defeat to Wydad
· GhanaSoccernetAsante Kotoko captain Samba O’Neil is confident about his outfit chances ahead of the crucial CAF Confederation Cup return fixture against Wydad Casablanca.
The Porcupine Warriors fell short in the first leg of the second preliminary round held at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, with the Moroccan giants inflicting a narrow win to stamp their authority ahead of the second leg.
Striker Joseph Bakasu scored the only goal of the match, ensuring his outfit return to the North African country with the advantage. A corner kick in the 47th minute wasn’t properly dealt with by Kotoko’s defence, with Bakasu capitalizing on it to fire home from close range for the match-winner.
Despite being a man down, Kotoko showed resilience and managed to avoid further damage, though they struggled to create meaningful chances going forward.
Ahead of the return leg, Samba O’Neil insists his outfit will rectify their mistakes and make sure they qualify for the next stage of the competition.
“It was a difficult game against Wydad. It is not over yet for us. We will correct our mistakes in the return leg and make sure we qualify for the next round”
The crucial return clash of the CAF Confederation Cup playoff has been scheduled for Friday, October 24, 2025.
