Morocco produced an impressive display on Tuesday after cruising to a dominant 5-0 victory over Burundi in an international friendly ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The match formed part of the Atlas Lions’ preparations for the upcoming tournament and also marked the conclusion of their mini training camp at the Mohammed VI Football Complex.

Head coach Mohamed Ouahbi used the camp to closely evaluate several players before finalising his 26-man squad for the World Cup.

Despite controlling large periods of the first half, Morocco and Burundi went into the break level after neither side managed to find the net.

The Atlas Lions, however, raised their intensity in the second half and quickly took complete control of the contest.

Striker Ayoub El Kaabi opened the scoring in the 59th minute before adding his second goal just four minutes later to put Morocco firmly in command.

Tawfik Bentayeb then extended the lead with a third goal in the 71st minute as the hosts continued to dominate proceedings.

Morocco maintained their attacking pressure during the closing stages of the match, with Soufiane Benjdida emerging as another standout performer.

The forward struck twice in the final ten minutes to complete a convincing 5-0 victory for the Atlas Lions.

The performance offered another encouraging sign for Mohamed Ouahbi and his technical staff as preparations intensify ahead of the World Cup.

Following the victory over Burundi, Morocco will now turn attention to two additional preparatory matches against Madagascar and Norway in June.

Those fixtures are expected to provide the final opportunity for the coaching staff to fine-tune tactics and build momentum before the World Cup begins on June 11.
