England Women coach Sarina Wiegman shares positive review about Black Queens
· GhanaSoccernetSarina Wiegman, the head coach of England's Women national team, was left impressed with the Black Queens' organisation during the international friendly on Tuesday evening.
The Black Queens gave the European champions a tough match despite losing 2-0 at the St Mary's. Lucia Kendall broke the deadlock early in the game but the Lionesses could only add another late in the match from the spot through Alessia Russo.
Although Wiegman believes her team should have scored more after the early goal, she praised the Black Queens for their game plan.
“We knew they were organised and they played how we expected them to play,” she said after the match.
“We also know that they wanted to play duels and they have some physicality, but when we dropped them deeper they started playing out and that looked good.”
England had beaten China 5-0 before Tuesday's encounter as part of their preparations for the European Women's World Cup qualifiers.
“I had hoped we would score more,” she admitted.
“I think if we had taken the chances better, we should have scored more so I was a little frustrated.
“Of course, we had lots of new players but you have to find these connections and I think if we scored earlier we would have added more.”
