Goal scoring is an art that must be learnt - Asamoah Gyan

Asamoah Gyan has underlined the importance of deliberate training and technical development in front of goal, arguing that becoming a prolific striker requires far more than natural ability.

The former Ghana captain, speaking on Channel One TV, framed finishing as a craft that must be consciously taught and refined over time.

Drawing from a career that saw him score 228 goals and become Ghana’s all-time leading scorer, Gyan challenged long-held beliefs that consistent scoring is driven by luck or external influences.

Gyan, who also remains Africa’s top scorer in FIFA World Cup history with six goals, credited his success to repetition and continuous improvement rather than instinct alone.

“Because goal scoring is an art. It’s not about any pastor praying for you or going to anywhere to do. No, no, no, no. It’s an act,” Gyan said.

His comments highlight a broader concern about player development, particularly in nurturing strikers who can deliver consistently.

“Goal scoring is an art. Okay. It’s not about anything. You have to just practice it.”
