England manager Wiegman pleased but wants more goals after win over Ghana
· GhanaSoccernetEngland manager Sarina Wiegman says her side should have been more clinical in front of goal despite their 2-0 victory over Ghana at St Mary’s Stadium.
The Lionesses struck twice through Lucia Kendall and Alessia Russo, but also hit the woodwork four times and passed up several clear chances.
“I hoped we would score more. If we had taken our chances better, it would have been more than this,” Wiegman told ITV. “We know as individuals the players are really good, but we have to make these connections again.”
Wiegman was delighted for Kendall, who marked her homecoming with the opening goal.
“Lucia’s goal was so funny,” she said. “She was so happy and celebrated as if it was a Champions League final. Good for her. Last month against Australia she almost scored too. It was a good moment and a good goal.”
The England head coach said the performance capped another positive week as the team closed out 2025 with back-to-back wins in friendlies.
