Morocco coach Mohamed Ouahbi backs CAF decision on AFCON title

Morocco head coach Mohamed Ouahbi has supported CAF’s decision to award his side the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title, stating that the governing body acted appropriately.

CAF’s Appeal Board ruled earlier this week that Senegal had forfeited the final following their conduct during the match, overturning their 1-0 extra-time victory and awarding Morocco a 3-0 win.

Senegal have since announced plans to challenge the decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport, describing the ruling as unfair.

Ouahbi, who replaced Walid Regragui after the final, addressed the controversy at a press conference announcing his squad for pre-World Cup friendlies against Ecuador and Paraguay.

“CAF and our federation have done what needed to be done,” he said. “As for me, I take care of the sporting side. The most important thing is to look ahead.”

The coach declined to dwell on the controversy, instead shifting focus to preparations for Morocco’s upcoming fixtures.
