The Black Queens of Ghana put up an impressive fighting spirit on Monday night, thumping Tanzania 4-1 in their final Group C match at the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

In what was a must-win game for Ghana, the team scored after just 12 minutes into the first half when experienced forward Princella Adubea deflected a clearance from the Tanzania goalkeeper into the net.

The pulsating encounter that ensued from there saw the Black Queens missing several chances.

This allowed the Tanzanians to grow into the game as they scored in the 41st minute courtesy of an equaliser by Stumai Athumani after she was set up by Enekia Lunyamila.

With the first half ending 1-1, both national teams had it all to play for in the second half, but it was the Black Queens who stepped up to fight for all three points.

A penalty kick converted by attacker Alice Kusi, plus goals from Evelyn Badu and Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah, propelled Ghana to secure an emphatic 4-1 win at full-time

The result means Ghana finished second in Group C with four points, behind South Africa on seven points.

The Black Queens, after finishing second, have qualified for the quarter-finals of the 2024 WAFCON.
