Sports Minister Kofi Adams denies role in Otto Addo dismissal
· GhanaSoccernetGhana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has rejected claims that he personally decided to sack former Black Stars coach Otto Addo.
Addo, who returned in March 2024, was dismissed after Ghana lost to Austria and Germany during the March international break.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Adams said the decision was not taken by one person but was based on discussions among key stakeholders.
“Otto Addo did his best to qualify the team, but concerns had already been raised about performances,” he said.
He added that the Ghana Football Association also carried out its own assessment before the final decision was made.
According to Adams, talks about Addo’s future had already started before the Germany game, and there was agreement on the next step.
“I did not sack Otto Addo. There was an agreement that a meeting would be held after those games, and discussions had already taken place,” he stated.
Addo’s second spell in charge ended despite securing World Cup qualification, with inconsistent performances cited as the main concern.
