Kwadwo Asamoah raises doubts over Black Stars' cohesion ahead of 2026 World Cup

Former Ghana international Kwadwo Asamoah has voiced concerns about the Black Stars’ readiness for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, questioning the team’s lack of a settled starting XI ahead of the global tournament.

Ghana, four-time African champions, will make their fifth appearance at the World Cup in North America, having been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama.

The Black Stars are aiming to improve on disappointing group-stage exits in 2014 and 2022, but Asamoah believes the current setup still lacks stability.

“To build a team needs time. With our national team now, I don't think we really have a starting XI," the former Juventus attacker told 3Sports.

"Today, it's a new team, another time, another different team. And then having a new coach won't be easy for him," Asamoah added.

Ghana will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, before taking on England on June 23 and concluding the group stage against Croatia on June 27.

Ahead of the tournament, Carlos Queiroz’s side will step up preparations with friendly matches against Mexico later this month and Wales on June 2.

The Black Stars’ final World Cup squad is expected to be announced on June 1.
