CAF Champions League preparations start now - Medeama boss Ibrahim Tanko
· GhanaSoccernetMedeama head coach Ibrahim Tanko has wasted little time shifting attention to continental ambitions after steering the club to the 2025-2026 Ghana Premier League title, underlining his intent to make an impact in Africa.
The Mauve and Yellow sealed their second league crown in emphatic fashion with a 5-2 victory over Kpando Heart of Lions at the TNA Stadium, a result that put them out of reach of closest challengers Bibiani Gold Stars and confirmed qualification for the 2026-2027 CAF Champions League.
Having delivered the title in convincing style, Tanko is already laying the groundwork for what lies ahead, emphasising urgency in preparations for the elite continental competition.
“I think it [preparations for the Champions League] should start today. We have to start preparing from now, there is no time. We are going to prepare very well so that we are going to do better in Africa,” he said after the decisive win.
The former Accra Lions coach, who secures his first major managerial honour with the triumph, now faces the challenge of translating domestic dominance onto the African stage, where Ghanaian clubs have struggled for consistency in recent years.
