President John Mahama has praised the Black Stars for restoring national pride and belief after securing qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while calling on Ghanaians to give head coach Otto Addo and his technical team the freedom to manage the squad without interference.

Speaking to Sporty FM following Ghana’s 1-0 victory over Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, Mahama commended the players and staff for their resilience and renewed sense of unity.

“They’ve done quite well to qualify. I think that the team’s morale and spirit are high. A few years back, Ghanaians were a bit dejected in the Stars, but I can see that spirit of support for the Stars coming back,” President Mahama said.

The President also addressed the growing debate surrounding Otto Addo’s leadership, urging supporters to remain patient and back the technical team as preparations begin for the global tournament.

“Let’s give the management and technical team some peace. I know we are 33 million coaches in Ghana, but please, let’s keep our coaching to ourselves and let the coaches and the managers handle the team without distracting them,” he added.

Ghana will learn their group opponents on December 5, 2025, when the World Cup draw is held in Washington, D.C.
