Otto Addo: Black Stars still in control despite Chad setback
· GhanaSoccernetBlack Stars head coach Otto Addo insists Ghana remain firmly in control of their qualification destiny despite Thursday’s draw with Chad in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Ghana conceded late in N’Djamena to settle for a 1-1 draw, a result that narrowed their lead at the top of Group I. Comoros’ win on Sunday saw them move to within a point of the Black Stars, but Addo believes the situation remains in Ghana’s hands.
“The positive truth is that nothing has changed. We were three points ahead of the second. This was the start of the score. I know Comoros is playing at the moment, so they are leading, so it’s getting closer. For us, nothing has changed,” Addo told the press.
He stressed the importance of bouncing back against Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday night. “We wanted to beat Chad, but it didn’t happen. But we are looking to do that against Mali tomorrow. The only positive thing is that we still have it in our own hands. We still can decide our own destiny. We will put everything in this game tomorrow to win this game,” he added.
Ghana have qualified for four FIFA World Cup tournaments in the past and are aiming to secure a fifth appearance at next year’s edition, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
