John Boyega Confirms He Has Spoken With Lucasfilm President Dave Filoni About Finn's Return to STAR WARS

by · GeekTyrant

The Star Wars universe is open and ready for some new stories to be told. The first era of Star Wars was what hooked fans and made everyone love the franchise.

The second set of films was divisive at the time, as new filmmaking techniques were used and some characters were under appreciated, but many have been able to look back on the movies and find them enjoyable.

The third trilogy was really picked apart by fans who did not appreciate the choppy storytelling of three different filmmakers who couldn’t seem to create a cohesive throughline, leaving some storylines unsatisfying and some characters unutilized.

So though many are wary of the franchise’s future, fans also seem hungry for more stories, and some feel like a new take could mean redemption for the last films. Could that also mean a return for some of the characters introduced in that trilogy? One star seems to think so.

Actor John Boyega played Finn in the most recent trilogy, a First Order Stormtrooper turned Jedi who turned his back on the dark side in the name of friendship and honor.

His set up was cool, but viewers thought pretty unanimously that the character got a bad deal by the end of the films. He was pushed to the backburner, and Boyega has been vocal about his disappointment around Finn’s story arc. So could he return now that big changes are being made at Lucasfilm?

When asked about returning to the role at MEGACON Orlando (via ScreenRant), one audience member attending the panel yelled, "Get Dave [Filoni] on the phone." To which Boyega replied, "I actually have, actually."

Dave Filoni has been appointed the President and Chief Creative Officer of Lucasfilm since Kathleen Kennedy's departure, so it’s completely likely that Filoni is exploring lots of ideas within the universe.

Filoni is excited to get Simon Kinberg's post-Episode IX trilogy off the ground, and it could be there, or in the long-delayed Rey movie that Finn finally returns. Or maybe a solo project could be on the horizon. As always, we will just have to wait and see.
