Kevin Feige Reveals Ryan Gosling Pitched His Own Vision for Marvel’s GHOST RIDER

Marvel Studios finally pulled the trigger on one of the biggest reveals fans have been waiting years to see.

During the studio’s Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, it was officially confirmed that Ghost Rider is coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Ryan Gosling starring as the Spirit of Vengeance.

Ghost Rider has been one of Marvel’s most requested additions to the MCU ever since the franchise began.

While the character made an appearance on Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, Marvel Studios has never given the supernatural antihero a proper big-screen debut. That’s finally changing, and fans couldn’t be more excited.

Gosling has openly expressed interest in playing Ghost Rider over the years, so the announcement didn’t come completely out of nowhere.

Even so, seeing it become official was one of Comic-Con’s biggest crowd-pleasing moments.

Following Marvel’s Hall H panel, ComicBook caught up with Kevin Feige, hoping to learn one key detail that fans immediately started debating.

Which Ghost Rider is Gosling actually playing? Is he Johnny Blaze or Danny Ketch?

Feige wasn’t about to give that away. “I am going to let Ryan reveal what he wants to reveal, when he wants to reveal it, and what he wanted to reveal today is…he’s playing Ghost Rider.

“He is a huge fan of the comics; he did come to us particularly with a specific vision, based on some particular comics, but I’ll let him unveil that as he wants to.”

That answer raises even more questions because it sounds like Gosling wasn’t just cast for the role.

Much like Mahershala Ali did with Blade, Gosling reportedly approached Marvel with his own vision for the character and specific comic book stories he wanted to explore.

Gosling had previously mentioned that “discussions had been had” regarding his MCU future, but he never hinted at which Ghost Rider stories inspired him.

Feige’s comments now suggest those conversations were driven by a particular run of comics that Gosling has been passionate about bringing to life.

Naturally, Marvel fans are already trying to figure out which stories he may have had in mind.

One of the more popular stories is Rise of the Midnight Sons, the fan-favorite crossover that united Doctor Strange, Blade, Morbius, both Ghost Riders, and the Darkhold Redeemers against supernatural threats.

It’s a storyline Marvel fans have wanted to see adapted for years, especially with Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight potentially fitting into that supernatural corner of the MCU.

Nothing has been confirmed, but if Gosling’s Ghost Rider pitch centered around Rise of the Midnight Sons, it could lay the foundation for one of Marvel’s coolest supernatural team-up movies.

I personally think this is going to be a standalone Ghost Rider film that will focus on Johnny Blaze.

For now, Marvel has only shared a handful of official details about the project. Ryan Gosling will star as Ghost Rider, Shawn Levy, of Deadpool & Wolverine and Star Wars: Starfighter, is directing, while Jonathan Tropper, who also worked on Star Wars: Starfighter and Your Friends & Neighbors, is writing the screenplay.

Marvel Studios is currently aiming to release Ghost Rider exclusively in theaters in 2028.

Whether Gosling ends up playing Johnny Blaze, Danny Ketch, or another version of the Spirit of Vengeance, Ghost Rider is finally riding into the MCU, and Marvel’s supernatural future just got a whole lot more exciting.
