Plymouth radio legend dies after cancer battle

by · PlymouthLive

Former Plymouth Sound radio DJ Peter Grant has died after a battle with cancer. The presenter was loved by fans across many stations including Magic FM, TFM and BBC Radio Newcastle

His BBC Radio Newcastle co-star Simon Logan, announced the news in a statement shared on Facebook on Monday. It said: "So very difficult to post that we have lost another radio legend and my great friend of 25 years.

"Peter Grant was a wonderful and talented person that was known for presenting radio and TV shows on many different platforms.

"RIP Peter, you fought a brave battle and will always be remembered especially for being kind, generous and so positive all the time. Thanks for the laughs and the great times Peter, everyone who knew you will miss you always.".

Peter worked as a broadcaster since the 1980s and listed himself as a 'self-employed' broadcaster on LinkedIn between 1982 and 2019. From 2009, Peter worked as a presenter for the BBC, and his broadcast roles included TV as well as radio work.

Former BBC Radio Newcastle broadcaster Alfie Joey added: "Well this is sad. An old friend of mine from radioland has died. Peter Grant was great company & relentlessly positive. Even when he was given his cancer diagnosis last year he said he wasn't going to dwell on the negatives.

"What an amazing outlook to have and to learn from. Thoughts and love to his wife Sarah-Jane & family. And fond memories of some happy times together, on and off air. RIP Peter."
