A new flashback has hinted at Carla's possible involvement in Joel's murder - but fans are having none of it

ITV Coronation Street viewers 'work out' who killed Joel after twist

Coronation Street's Carla Connor, played by Alison King, has been identified as a potential suspect in the murder of Joel Deering. The Underworld factory boss, who is dealing with her divorce from Peter Barlow, has been growing closer to DS Lisa Swain, much to the delight of viewers hoping for a romance between the pair.

However, actress Vicky Myers, who plays Lisa, recently discussed her character's inner struggles. In an episode aired on October 30, Lisa was questioned by her daughter Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) about whether she had killed Joel, after Lisa was seen with bruises all over her body.

Lisa told Carla that she'd been hit by a car, but denied any involvement in Joel's death. A shocking flashback involving Carla revealed that she had witnessed something potentially connected to Joel's death, as reported by Leicestershire Live.

The scene showed Carla and Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) discussing their alibis for the night of September 27, 2024, and it became clear that Carla had not been truthful about her location that night. The flashback showed Carla leaving the Underworld factory and spotting an unknown person on the cobbles.

Despite a seemingly damning scene causing suspicion, viewers are not convinced of Carla's guilt in the murder of Joel. Many speculate she may have unwittingly witnessed the real culprit, possibly Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown).

"Carla flashback! Those footsteps sounded like a woman's to me. Maybe she saw Dee-Dee with the crowbar?", one fan posted in reference to a flashback involving Dee-Dee and a bloody crowbar. Another questioned: "We can hear a van? Someone in heels? What did you see Carla my love?!"

A third commented: "Idk that flashback of Carla wasn't very convincing at proving she was involved! I don't think Carla was involved with the murder of Joel Deering!" A fourth concluded: "What did Carla see? I need answers!!"

Although soap fans are sceptical, Carla has more than enough reason to want to kill Joel, who wreaked havoc on the Street before his death. Prior to being killed off, the villain, played by Calum Lill, terrorised Lauren Bolton, Ellie and even Betsy, who has been working for Carla for several weeks at Underworld.

To top it all off, Joel had also been successfully dodging justice and even faked his death before his project became a reality. Could Carla have decided to kill Joel or even help the real murderer for Betsy and Lisa?
