BREAKING: Turaki-PDP faction declares Jonathan presidential candidate in absentia
by Matthew Atungwu · Daily PostThe Taminu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has declared former President Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The faction took the decision at a special national convention held at the its secretariat in Area 10, Garki, Abuja.
However, the former president was not present at the event where his nomination was formally ratified.
The Certificate of Return was received on his behalf by Bayelsa lawmaker, Fred Agbedi.
The development was announced during the gathering attended by delegates and party stakeholders aligned with the Turaki-led group.
DAILY POST reports that another PDP faction backed by Federal Capital Territory, FCT, minister Nyesom Wike, had elected Sandy Onor as its presidential candidate.
The Wike-led faction had also denied reports that Jonathan has emerged the opposition party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
Jonathan is yet to officially comment on his election as the presidential candidate of the Turaki-led PDP camp.
