AFCON 2025: Two teams qualify for Round of 16
by Ifreke Inyang · Daily PostBy the end of Saturday night, two countries had qualified for the last 16 of the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
They are Egypt and Nigeria.
Both teams have won their first two group fixtures to book their spots in the next round of the tournament.
Egypt held on to beat South Africa 1-0 on Friday, despite being reduced to 10 men in the first half due to a red card.
The Pharoahs had defeated Zimbabwe 2-1 in their opening match.
In Group C, Nigeria edged the top-of-the-table clash against Tunisia, winning 3-2.
Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi and Ademola Lookman all scored to give Eric Chelle’s men a three-goal lead.
But the Carthage Eagles fought back, thanks to a Montassar Talbi header and Ali Abdi’s penalty.
