UCL: Steven Gerrard tells Arsenal only way they can beat PSG in final
by John Owen Nwachukwu · Daily PostLiverpool legend, Steven Gerrard has detailed the strategy Arsenal should adopt to overcome PSG in the Champions League final.
PSG’s title defense in the Champions League continued with an exhilarating semi-final win over Bayern Munich, as Luis Enrique’s team triumphed 6-5 on aggregate.
The French champions secured a 5-4 victory in the first leg in Paris before managing a 1-1 draw against the German champions at the Allianz Arena.
Ballon d’Or recipient Ousmane Dembele gave PSG an early advantage in the tie with a goal in the 3rd minute, while Harry Kane’s late effort proved to be merely a consolation.
PSG is set to face Arsenal in the Champions League final, a year after they triumphed over Inter Milan to claim the tournament for the first time.
Gerrard, who lifted the Champions League trophy with Liverpool in 2005, remarked that Arsenal will enter the final as ‘underdogs’ but firmly believes that the Premier League leaders ‘certainly have a chance’.
When asked to assess Arsenal’s prospects of pulling off an upset in the Budapest final on May 30, Gerrard stated on TNT Sports, “I understand better than anyone that an underdog can win this final. It was a mismatch when we faced AC Milan, but anything is possible.
“Arsenal is competing against a top-tier team with an elite manager, so they must present their best selves.
“Every single player must perform at their peak, but they certainly have a chance. Being the underdogs might actually benefit this Arsenal squad.
“If they can secure the Premier League title, it will instill immense confidence and belief as they head into the final.
“They definitely have a chance. I believe they need to leverage their physicality, utilize their size, ensure every set-piece is effective, and take PSG to uncomfortable situations.”
