World Cup: They dropped back – Martinez explains why Argentina beat England
by Don Silas · Daily PostArgentina striker, Lautaro Martinez, has explained why his team defeated England 2-1 in the World Cup semi-final on Wednesday.
Martinez, who scored the winning goal for Argentina, insisted that England dropped back after pressing for 60 minutes.
“[England] got tired. They pressed for 60 minutes. After that, they had nothing left, then they dropped back,” Martinez said.
“That gave us more calm when it came to moving the ball. We made the pitch wide, and in the end, we got the two goals, and after three and a half years, we are back playing a World Cup final.”
Martinez will now hope to lead Argentina to win the World Cup when they face Spain in the final this weekend.
