Gombe police uncover live ammunition concealed in sack

119 rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 live ammunition concealed in a bag has been uncovered by the Gombe State Police Command along Kalshingi Road in Kwadon, Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area of the state.

DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the state command spokesman, in a statement explained, that, “The recovery followed credible information received by the Divisional Police Officer of Kwadon Division at about 10:30am on May 19, 2026.”

Abdullahi further explained that the information showed that a suspicious white sack had been hidden under a tree opposite a graveyard along the road, stressing that upon receipt of the information, the Divisional Police Officer promptly led a team of detectives to the scene where the sack was recovered and searched.

The police spokesperson revealed that the items recovered from the sack included 119 rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 live ammunition, two empty ammunition packets, two bottles containing moringa seeds, and one green bag, explaining that the operatives immediately surrounded the bushes and adjoining areas after the discovery, with no suspect arrested.

Following the discovery of the ammunition, Abdullahi stated that the Command has intensified monitoring and surveillance in the area while investigation is ongoing to identify and apprehend those linked to the concealed ammunition.

The Commissioner of Police, Bello Yahaya, hailed members of the public for providing timely information and urged residents to remain vigilant, appealing to citizens to continue providing security agencies with useful intelligence in order to curb insecurity and enhance efforts to protect lives and property across the state.
