2025 AFCON: NFF reveals why Super Eagles players didn’t collect bronze medals

Ibrahim Gusau, the president of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, has explained why Super Eagles players were absent at the medal ceremony for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Eric Chelle’s men beat Egypt 4-2 in a penalty shootout to win the third-place match on Saturday.

The three-time champions were scheduled to receive their bronze medals after Sunday’s final, which was played between Morocco and Senegal.

But most of the Nigerian players had already returned to their clubs, so Gusau had to collect the medals for them.

Gusau said, “The players couldn’t wait to get their medals on Sunday.

“He said their clubs were eager to have them return after Saturday’s game.

“I have the medals with me.

“The same thing happened with Egypt too. If the medal ceremony was on the day of the match, they would have gotten theirs as well.”
