Many injured in shooting near Brown University campus

In an initial alert posted on X, Providence Police confirmed that multiple individuals had been shot in the vicinity of the Ivy League campus, describing the situation as an active investigation.
Residents and members of the university community were advised to remain indoors or steer clear of the area until further notice.
Conflicting reports emerged regarding the status of the suspect. President Donald Trump stated that he had been briefed on the incident and indicated that a suspect was in custody. However, Brown University later issued updates through its emergency notification system clarifying that the situation was still unfolding.
The university warned that an active shooter was believed to be operating near the Barus and Holley area of campus, prompting an urgent call for students and staff to shelter in place.
In a subsequent update issued less than an hour after earlier reports suggested an arrest, the school said police had not yet detained any suspect and were continuing efforts to locate those responsible.
Brown University confirmed that several law enforcement agencies, alongside emergency medical teams, were deployed to the scene as the response continued.
Brown, one of the United States’ most prestigious universities, is located in Providence, near Boston, and has a student population of approximately 11,000.
