by · Daily Post

The Confederation of African Football, CAF, has named a new centre referee for the quarter-final tie between Nigeria and Algeria, DAILY POST reports.

Senegalese official Issa Sy will now  take charge of game slated for the Grand Stade de Marrakech.

Sy was in charge of VAR during Morocco’s Round of 16 encounter with Tanzania.

Somali’s Omar Artan was earlier appointed to officiate the game.

Artan, who was named best referee in Africa in 2025 was removed for reportedly violating CAF’s sponsorship rules.

He wore boots from a brand not approved by the tournament’s official sponsors during an earlier game.
