Two feared dead as communal clash rocks Benue communities

At least two people lost their lives and several homes were destroyed after a violent communal conflict erupted between neighbouring communities in Obi Local Government Area of Benue State.

According to security expert Zagazola Makama, the attack occurred around 10:30 a.m. on April 28 when more than 100 armed men allegedly stormed Adiko community from neighbouring Ayinu in Oju Local Government Area over a lingering land disagreement.

The sources said the assailants reportedly fired at residents, killing two persons during the invasion, before setting houses on fire and damaging farmlands in the community.

According to the sources, security personnel alongside tactical operatives quickly responded to the incident, while the corpses of the victims were recovered and taken to the General Hospital in Obi.

They further stated that officials from the two local government areas have commenced peace talks involving the affected communities aimed at calming the situation.

The sources added that security agencies are continuing investigations and efforts to apprehend those behind the attack, as additional personnel have been deployed to maintain peace and prevent another outbreak of violence.
