FCT Poll: Low voter turnout, missing names at Aungwa Bawa, Nyanya

by · Daily Post

The Aungwa Bawa primary school in the Nyanya area of the Federal Capital Territory witnessed low turnout of voters in the ongoing FCT Area Council election.

DAILY POST visited several polling units at the Primary School and observed a poor turnout of voters for the FCT Area Council election.

Some voters who spoke to DAILY POST attributed the low turnout to the loss of confidence in the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

“I’m not surprised at the low turnout. See what’s happening in our electoral system. The politicians and INEC are just taking the electorate for a fool,” a voter who pleaded anonymity said.

“How will people come out to stress themselves when at the end of the day their votes don’t count. They already know who the winners of this election are. This voting exercise is just a camouflage,” another voter who still did not want her name mentioned said.

Some voters also complained about missing names on the voter register, saying they had been to the several polling units in the area but could not find their names on the register.

At the time of filing this report, some Presiding Officers who spoke to DAILY POST, claimed they had not witnessed any problem with the exercise.

DAILY POST reports that the Aungwa Bawa Primary School, Nyanya, has about seven polling units with the presence of security operatives at each of the polling units.
