Kano: Abba Yusuf’s aide, Kwankwaso resigns as gov dumps NNPP
by Seun Opejobi · Daily PostSunusi Kwankwaso, a Special Adviser to Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has stepped down from his position in the wake of the governor’s departure from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
The resignation was made public on Friday through a video shared on Facebook by Sunusi’s media assistant, Saifullahi Alhassan.
In the footage, Sunusi explained that his decision followed information indicating that Governor Yusuf had withdrawn from the NNPP and was likely to align with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to him, he had previously written a resignation letter, but attempts to submit it through official channels proved unsuccessful.
“After learning that the governor had left the NNPP and was expected to move to the APC, I tendered my resignation, but it was not received,” he said.
He further disclosed that the letter was also forwarded to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, where it was similarly rejected.
“This video is to officially notify the public that I have resigned from my role as a political adviser. I am grateful for the chance to serve and for the work we carried out together over the last two years,” Sunusi stated.
Despite the political developments, he firmly ruled out joining the APC, stressing his continued allegiance to Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and the Kwankwasiyya political ideology.
“I will not abandon Kwankwaso or the Kwankwasiyya movement. My loyalty remains with Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and I have no intention of joining the APC,” he affirmed.
Sunusi’s resignation comes at a time of growing political uncertainty in Kano State following Governor Yusuf’s exit from the NNPP, a move that has reportedly sparked resignations and shifts in allegiance among government officials and party members.
