Police nab man over alleged possession of 339 wraps of Indian hemp in Kogi
by Amos Tauna · Daily PostA 52-year-old man has been apprehended by the Kogi State Police Command for allegedly having 339 wraps of substances suspected to be Indian hemp in Kabba, Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Naziru Kankarofi, while addressing newsmen on Tuesday explained that through intelligence-led policing, strategic stop-and-search operations, and proactive crime prevention measures, the arrest was made on May 9, 2026, at about 2:00pm.
According to the CP, “Operatives attached to the area command in Kabba intercepted a Honda Pilot Jeep with registration number LSD 456 GE during a routine stop-and-search operation.”
Kankarofi said the vehicle was driven by one Chris Amos, 52, while one Bilat Joseph was seated as a passenger, stressing that upon conducting a thorough search of the vehicle, the operatives discovered 339 wraps of substances reasonably suspected to be Indian hemp concealed inside the vehicle.
Preliminary investigations, according to him, showed that the suspects allegedly picked up the consignment from Ado-Ekiti in Ekiti State on the instruction of a man identified simply as “Alhaji,” whose full identity and whereabouts are still unknown.
The suspects further stated that the illicit substance was to be delivered to Yola, Adamawa State, saying that the suspects are currently in police custody, while the exhibits have been secured pending the conclusion of investigations.
The commissioner further explained that diligent prosecution of all those connected with the crime would be carried out, assuring that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the criminal network.
