Many feared dead as helicopter crashes in Ondo community

Many people are feared dead after a helicopter crashed in Igbokoda, headquarters of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.

According to Sahara Reporters, the incident occurred on Monday, throwing the riverine community into panic as residents reportedly scampered for safety.

Details of the crash, including the number of people aboard the helicopter and the condition of possible survivors, remained unclear as of the time of filing this report.

A resident who spoke on the incident confirmed the crash.

“Yes, it’s true. A helicopter just crashed now at Igbokoda, Ondo State,” the resident said.

The resident said efforts were ongoing to reach the crash site and ascertain the extent of casualties.

The spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Abayomi Jimoh, said he was unaware of the incident but promised to make inquiries.

Igbokoda is a major commercial centre in Ilaje, a coastal and oil-producing area of Ondo State where helicopters are frequently used for oil and gas logistics operations.

The cause of the crash had not been established as of the time of filing this report.
