Gov Buni laments as Yobe boat mishap kills many, orders SEMA to support victims’ families
by Shehu Usman · Daily PostYobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has condoled with families of the 25 persons who died in a boat mishap in Nguru local government area, describing the incident as a monumental loss to their families and the state.
Buni in a statement issued by his media aide, Mamman Mohammed, prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased persons and directed immediate treatment of those rescued.
“it is with a heavy heart that l receive the shocking and devastating news of the boat mishap in Nguru local government area which claimed 25 lives with 14 others still missing and 13 rescued.
“I pray more survivors will be rescued to join their families,” Buni prayed.
The tragic accident was reported to have occurred on Saturday when a canoe conveying 52 passengers from Adiyani in Jigawa State to Garbi in Nguru Local Government Area capsized, leading to the death of 25 people.
He further cautioned against overloading of canoes and vehicles to guard against avoidable accidents.
The Governor directed SEMA to provide immediate support to the families of the victims, while search and rescue continues.
