AFCON 2025: ‘Morocco looks scary’ – Iwobi admits ahead of semifinal clash

by · Daily Post

Nigeria’s Super Eagles midfielder, Alex Iwobi, has said that Morocco will be a tough team to beat in the Africa Cup of Nations semifinal.

The Fulham midfielder admitted that the Atlas Lions looked really scary, adding that he watched their performance against Cameroon.

Nigeria is faced with a much more difficult task of playing the host nation, the Atlas Lions in Rabat on Wednesday after defeating Algeria 2-0.

Nigeria wants to win their first big trophy on the African continent since 2013, while Morocco has not won the Africa Cup of Nations since 1976.

The Morocco team has some really good players, like Noussair Mazraoui of Manchester United, PSG’s Achraf Hakimi, Brahim Díaz of Real Madrid, Youssef En-Nesyri from Fenerbahçe, and Ayoub El Kaabi from Olympiakos.

Morocco’s strong defense and ability to attack have made them a top team to beat, so the semifinal is a big challenge for Nigeria.

Iwobi said openly that Morocco’s game against Cameroon made a big impression on him, even before they were set to face each other in the semifinals.

Iwobi said on Alexander Yaa Digg’s YouTube channel, “The night before the game [against Algeria] just watched Morocco beat Cameroon.

“Morocco looks good, looks scary. But we still hope to face them…We have to believe, so we can achieve. Our team is good.”

A win for Nigeria would mean that the Super Eagles have made it to a second successive finals in the Africa Cup of Nations.
