AFCON: Lookman reveals what pains him most about Super Eagles defeat to Morocco
by John Owen Nwachukwu · Daily PostSuper Eagles player, Ademola Lookman has talked about Nigeria’s sad loss in the penalty shootout against Morocco in the semifinals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The winger said the match had really worn the team down both mentally and physically.
“It was a tough game. We played 120 minutes. It was a tough game, but losing on penalties makes it even harder,” Lookman told reporters.
The ex-Everton player also mentioned that the skill level of the Moroccan team was a key reason the game ended the way it did.
“I think a strong team. At the end of the day, we went to penalties,” he added.
Lookman was not ready to think about the Super Eagles’ next game, which is the third-place playoff match against Egypt.
“To be honest, I haven’t really thought about it, not really thought about that to be honest. Obviously because of the disappointment.”
Nigeria are set to try and finish the tournament on a good note as they take on Egypt on Saturday.
This meeting gives them a chance to make up for the loss to Morocco and get a top-three result.
