Nigeria vs Gabon: What I told Super Eagles teammates after injury-time miss – Osimhen
by Don Silas · Daily PostSuper Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, has revealed what he told his teammates after missing a potential injury-time winner in Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying semi-final playoff 4-1 win against Gabon on Thursday.
Osimhen had a golden chance to seal the victory for Nigeria in the dying seconds of stoppage time when he broke free for a one-on-one opportunity against Gabon goalkeeper Loyce Mbaba.
Unfortunately, the Galatasaray attacker played the ball wide and giving Gabon a chance that led to extra time.
Speaking after the game, Osimhen said he apologised to his teammates and promised to correct his missed chance.
“Just like today, when I missed that kind of opportunity, I was asking my teammates if we were going straight to penalties or if we had extra time,” Osimhen told reporters in Rabat.
“They told me there was extra time, and I said to them, ‘I’m so sorry. I’m going to correct it,” he said.
Nigeria will now face DR Congo in the World Cup qualifying playoff final on Sunday.
