Messi: Five things to know about Spanish club CD Eldense

Former Argentina captain, Lionel Messi, has reached an agreement in principle to become the new ‌owner of Spanish second-division side, CD Eldense.

Messi is close to completing a deal to purchase 100 per cent of the club’s shares.

CD Eldense is a Spanish football club from the city of Elda, in the province of Alicante, in the Valencian community.

The club was founded on 17 September 1921 and is the oldest club in the province, following the disappearance of Alicante CF.

Eldense survived a match-fixing scandal that almost destroyed them in 2017.

They returned to the Segunda División for the 2026-27 season after

a short spell in the second tier.

Eldense, who currently sit in 20th position in the Segunda standings, were taken over by TH ⁠Soluciones Group last October.
