EPL: Why Man City lost 2-1 to Newcastle – Guardiola

by · Daily Post

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has admitted that his team failed to capitalise on their momentum as they suffered a 2-1 defeat at Newcastle United on Saturday.

City had aimed to reduce Arsenal’s lead at the top of the Premier League table to just one point.

However, they were unable to convert the early opportunities presented to Erling Haaland before Harvey Barnes put the hosts ahead in the second half.

Although Ruben Dias’ deflected strike levelled the score at 1-1, Barnes struck once more to secure all three points for the Magpies.

“Newcastle is a top side, top players, top manager, so unfortunately tonight we could not make the momentum that we had,” Guardiola told BBC Match of the Day.

“It was an entertaining game; we both had chances, and then there was a momentum shift, and ultimately, we couldn’t win.”
