I will jail anyone who rigs election under my administration – Peter Obi vows

The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has vowed that under his administration, anyone who rigs election will go to jail.

Obi made this vow on Thursday while fielding questions in an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time, noting that the punishment would apply even where only one vote was involved.

He was outlining his position on electoral integrity, opposition politics and democratic governance ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

“I’ve said it, and I’ll say it again: if I am the serving president of this country, whoever rigs elections will be in jail. Even for one vote, you will be in jail,” Obi said.

The former Anambra State governor equally promised that political parties, including opposition parties, would not be harassed under his administration, stressing that his government would involve them in decisions affecting the country.

While criticising ‘restrictions’ placed on his campaign activities in some states, Obi asserted that candidates should be allowed to campaign freely regardless of their opponents’ political affiliations.

The presidential candidate also said that opposition members would be involved in government decisions whenever he travels outside the country.
