BREAKING: Four terrorists convicted over Owo Catholic Church attack

The Federal High Court in Abuja has convicted four out of the five accused persons put on trial by the Department of State Services, DSS, over the June 5, 2022 attack on Saint Francis Catholic Church, Owo, in Ondo State.

Forty-three worshipers were killed in the attack.

Five accused persons were put on trial by the DSS for alleged complicity in the crime but only four were convicted.

The four convicted persons are Idris Abdulmalik Omeiza, 25, Al Qasim Idris, 20, Jamiu Abdulmalik, 26 and Abdulhaleem Idris, 25.

Momoh Otuho Abubakar, 47, was discharged and acquitted.

In the nine-count terrorism charge, the DSS the DSS accused the convicts of being members of foreign terror groups and being responsible for the Owo massacre.

In his judgment, Justice Emeka Nwite pronounced them guilty.

The judgment is still ongoing.
