2026 WCQ: Troost-Ekong hails Super Eagles after securing World Cup playoff spot

Eric Chelle’s side defeated the Cheetahs 4-0 to secure a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs.
Victor Osimhen scored a hat-trick in the game, while substitute Frank Onyeka netted the final goal in added time.
The three-time African champions finished second in Group C behind South Africa’s Bafana Bafana, who secured automatic qualification.
Troost-Ekong acknowledged that it has been a difficult journey for the team.
“It’s easy to celebrate this good moment, but it’s been really tough this last month. That’s down to us, to come out now and achieve something that was said to be impossible many times, yet we kept believing,” he said after the game.
The playoffs will be held in Morocco next month.
