World Cup 2026: Messi needs help – Zlatan Ibrahimovic sends message to Argentina players
by Don Silas · Daily PostFormer Sweden striker, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, has told Argentina players that their captain, Lionel Messi, needs help on the pitch.
Ibrahimovic was speaking on Fox Sports after Argentina’s 3-2 win against Egypt in the World Cup Round of 16 encounter on Tuesday.
Yasser Ibrahim and Mostafa Zico gave the North Africans the lead, before goals from Messi, Cristian Romero, and Enzo Fernandez ensured Lionel Scaloni’s side qualified for the World Cup quarter-final.
“If I have to be a little bit critical, his [Messi’s] teammates need to step it up and also help him because he has been on another level,” Ibrahimovic said of Messi.
“If he can carry on and bring it all the way to the final and really take the final pieces. We will not be surprised, but he needs help to be fair.”
