Gunmen abduct six Nasarawa State University students

Gunmen have abducted six students of Nasarawa State University in Gudi, Akwanga Local Government Area, prompting a major rescue operation by security agencies.

The Nasarawa State Police Command said it has stepped up efforts to secure the safe release of the students after the incident, which occurred on Wednesday night.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Rahman Nansel, the attack occurred around 9 pm when armed men invaded an off-campus hostel at Anguwar Ninzo in Gudi, on the outskirts of the town.

He explained that six of the victims have been confirmed as students of the Faculty of Engineering at the Gudi Campus of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, while another person at the lodge at the time was also taken.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Shetima Mohammed, visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment and assured students, residents and the university community that efforts were ongoing to bring the victims back safely.

Security agencies have since launched a coordinated operation involving the police, DSS, military, NSCDC, vigilantes and other tactical teams.

The Area Commander in Akwanga has also been redeployed to help coordinate field operations.

SP Nansel said: “The operation is aimed at tracking down the abductors, rescuing the victims unhurt and bringing the perpetrators to justice.”

He urged residents to remain calm, stay alert and report any useful information to the nearest security agency as investigations and rescue efforts continue.
