Putra Heights Pipeline Fire: 237 Houses Damaged, 145 People Injured

Most victims sustained burns to exposed areas of their bodies, including their legs and back.

A total of 237 houses and 399 vehicles were damaged in the gas pipeline blaze in Putra Heights yesterday, 1 April

According to the fire and rescue department, 305 residents were displaced, and at least 145 individuals received hospital treatment for burns and heat inhalation injuries, reported Malay Mail.

Fortunately, no fatalities have been recorded.

Of the 399 damaged vehicles, 225 were completely burned, while 174 sustained partial damage.

The New Straits Times reported that the intense heat from the incident could be felt kilometres away, melting plastic and rubber objects within a wide radius around the pipeline.

The fire, which broke out at 8.10am, prompted PLUS Malaysia Berhad to close the ELITE Highway to all vehicles along the stretch between Seafield and Bandar Saujana Putra

Electricity supply was also temporarily disrupted.

A total of 325 personnel from 11 agencies collaborated in the firefighting and rescue efforts, successfully extinguishing the fire at 3.45pm.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan stated that authorities will look into claims suggesting the fire was triggered by digging activities on PETRONAS reserve land.
