[UPDATE] Elderly Woman Injured In Sitiawan Fast-Food Restaurant SUV Crash Passes Away

The 73-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries while undergoing emergency treatment at the hospital.

UPDATE: The 73-year-old woman who was injured after a Volvo SUV crashed into a fast-food restaurant in Sitiawan, Perak, has succumbed to her injuries while undergoing emergency treatment at the hospital

According to Oriental Daily, she was pronounced dead while receiving emergency treatment at Seri Manjung Hospital last night, 8 May.

Manjung district police chief ACP Hasbullah Abd Rahman said seven other victims — four men, two women, and one girl aged between five and 38 — are receiving treatment at the same hospital for minor injuries.

The police have arrested the 29-year-old driver responsible for the incident for investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving resulting in death.

It was previously reported that an elderly woman was injured after a Volvo SUV crashed into a fast-food restaurant in Sitiawan, Perak, shocking both customers and staff

According to Berita Harian, the incident occurred around 9pm last night, 8 May, when the SUV rammed through the restaurant's glass wall.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the victim, in her 70s, was trapped under the vehicle but was rescued by members of the public at the scene.

"A team of nine firefighters from the Seri Manjung station was dispatched to the scene to assist the Health Ministry medical personnel.

"The situation was brought under control by 9.30pm and the operation concluded at 9.49pm," he said in a statement.

Videos of the incident have since circulated on social media, showing the SUV inside the restaurant and bystanders helping to free other patrons and move the vehicle

The driver is believed to have lost control of the SUV, though no further details have been released.
