Hadi Alodid (30), of Apartment 1, 4 Duncairn Avenue, Belfast is charged with the attempted murder of Stephen Ogilvie on 8 June in Kinnaird Avenue.
At a previous court hearing last month, the court heard that Ogilvie lost his left eye and incurred serious damage to his right eye, as well as deep lacerations to the face and back.
Alodid is further charged with possession of a knife in a public place, as well as “threatening or abusive behaviour”.
He appeared this morning at Laganside court via video link from Maghaberry Prison and an Arabic interpreter was used.
The prosecution told the court that there is “outstanding evidence in the case” and that this has been requested, such as medical evidence, phone “triage” and outstanding statements.

The prosecution then said it hopes to fix a date for a “preliminary inquiry” next month.
Before a case is sent to the Crown Court, which handles the most serious criminal offences, a “preliminary inquiry” is held.
This involves written statements and evidence being presented to the court before the case proceeds to the Crown Court.
District Judge Anne Marshall told the accused that the case will be sent to the Crown Court and that next month, a date will be set for this process to happen.
The judge also told Alodid’s interpreter: “Would you also advise him that he is facing some serious charges and that he should consider seeking some legal representation.”
The judge then asked if Alodid has anything to say in response to this statement that he should seek legal representation, but Alodid shook his head and said no.
Alodid will appear again before court on 5 August to fix a date for the preliminary inquiry.
