THE MOTHER of a young girl who was killed in a collision in Co Donegal yesterday evening has died in hospital from injuries she sustained in the same crash.
The collision occurred between a car and a van on the R240 at Carrowmore, Glentogher, Cardonagh, Co Donegal on Wednesday, 2 July.
Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to the collision shortly before 6:30pm.
A six-year-old girl died in the collision and three others were taken to hospital.
The driver of the car, a woman in her 20s and mother of the six-year-old child who was killed, was hospitalised and later transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, where she has since died from her injuries.
A young female child, who was a rear passenger, is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Royal Victoria Hospital.

A male front seat passenger, aged in his 30s, is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Altnagelvin Hospital in Co Derry.
No other injuries were reported.
Cathaoirleach of the Inishowen Municipal Authority, Councillor Martin McDermott, knows the family personally and said the loss of both a young girl and her mother is particularly poignant.
“It’s just devastating. The loss of anybody on our roads is difficult for any community to take,” said McDermott.
“But the loss of a mother and daughter, particularly given the fact that they are so young, is even more poignant and more difficult to accept.
“People are just numb and there is very little I can add to that other than to keep them all in our thoughts and prayers,” he said.
The deaths of the mother and daughter brings to ten the number of people to die on Donegal’s roads so far this year.
The road was closed for a technical examination by Forensic Collision Investigators and has since reopened.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
Any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and were travelling in the area between 6pm and 6.30pm on Wednesday 2 July are asked to make this footage available.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Buncrana Garda Station at 074 932 0540, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
