Kirby and the World Beyond goes a bit Truman Show with its 3D open world

Nintendo revealed Kirby and the World Beyond for Nintendo Switch 2, and it’s the ravenous pink puff ball’s most open world and most 3D game to date. The game is set for release in Spring 2027.

The reveal trailer showed Kirby rampaging around a bright, colourful and friendly open world, sucking in enemies, grabbing their abilities and using them to explore in a full 3D space. This is another major evolution for the platforming hero, who had only ever been in side-scrolling games before Kirby and the Forgotten Land in 2022.

But then something big happens. Kirby fights King Dedede so hard that he Team Rockets him right out into the sky. And then the sky breaks.

What?!

Is Kirby in The Truman Show or something?!

Turns out… maybe? A new character appears and leads Kirby to a new sword which allows him to chop through the environment, destroying stuff that’s around him and reach the evil penguin shaped hole in the sky, cutting through the dome and revealing another world that lies beyond. Another world, that is, with another hole in its own sky dome as well.

This one I’m definitely looking forward to seeing more of soon.
