What We Played – Star Wars Galactic Racer, Silent Hill & Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse

by · tsa

A few of us have been racing across planets in a galaxy far, far away this week – Dom, Nick and myself – with the exemplary arcade racing action of Star Wars Galactic Racer. Seriously, it’s very good, and that’s quite unsurprising if you know that it’s a bunch of former Criterion folks at Fuse Games who’ve made it – the takedown cutaways say it all.

Also, the music is very Star Wars-y, and some of the motifs have lodged themselves right into my subconscious.

Laura had a bit of an out of body experience this week. “I’ve been lumbering happily around the Scottish coastal town of St. Amelia in the fog,” she said, “that is until some annoying human turned up trying to sneak past me, so I lunged at him and jabbed at him with my big jabby head. He tried (and failed) to hit me with a plank of wood which was frankly just rude. Then, realising he was losing life at a rate of knots, he tried to do a runner. But I chased after him and finished him off when he was trying to hide (in a doorway of all places?!).”

“Yes, that’s totally what happened to me in the gaming world this week… The roles were in no way reversed. I’m not a loser. Honest!”

We believe you, Laura.

Nic B and Tuffcub are both sad bears that haven’t been able to play much of anything this week, as work takes over, but Gamoc carries the flag playing Runescape Dragonwilds, Infection Free Zone, Transport Fever 3, Gladio Mori, and Sprawl Zero for reviews. Some of these are live already. “I also started playing Abiotic Factor with my sister after PSN finally verified me successfully. It is a weird game that I’m not sold on yet.”

Aran reviewed Qliphah in Providence’s Shadow this week, which had interesting ideas, but sadly came up short. He also returned to Tales of Kenzera Zau and is getting quite near the end. “I’ve enjoyed my time with it and would recommend it for people looking for a decent platformer.”

It’s been a hair-raising week for Steve, with a certain game which you’ll hear about next time round. But aside from that, he’s been playing “the very charming Songs of Glimmerwick, an indie cozy magic school game with lovely aesthetics and solid writing.” And he thinks that the Castlevania demo is “pretty sick”.

Now then, what have you been playing?
