Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy release date set for August

Prequel spin-off Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy has been handed a 27th August release date by Focus and developer Asobo, the game coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC – it will also be available day one with Xbox Game Pass.

Resonance is set around fifteen years before A Plauge Tale: Requiem in the 14th century, following a new protagonist, set of baddies and delving into a new mythology. Sophie is seeking her independence as a plunderer, finding herself in a race against rival factions while also afflicted by some kind of infection or corruption. Some kind of death curse, which appears to be true?

“But the Island’s depths remain to be explored, and Sophia is about to encounter a far more unexpected ally, a mythic hero drawn from the oldest legend,” say Focus.

What will make for a stark surprise to fans of the first two A Plague Tale games is that it shifts from the more stealthy style of action adventure to a much more combat-laden style. Sophie has to fight and scrap for her survival in a very different way to the ratty hordes of Innocence and Requiem.

Looking back to the last game in Asobo’s hit series, we said of A Plague Tale Requiem, “A Plague Tale: Requiem gave me the chills. The graphics, sound design and writing are all phenomenal, and the gameplay is fantastic. There are a few issues with sneaking sections feeling samey, the puzzles being a little too easy, but these are forgivable for just how excellent Amicia and Hugo are as characters. If you enjoyed the first game, or you’re just looking for something narratively compelling, Requiem is the game for you.”
